AFD-3D is a new branch of Airframe Designs, established in 2020 to focus on the supply of 3D engineering and manufacturing services to the aviation, defence, space, marine, nuclear, rail, automotive and medical industries.

Our 3D capabilities are focused around Modelling, Scanning and Printing.

We are a team of highly experienced engineers (design, analysis, certification, and manufacturing) capable of delivering optimal solutions for mechanical structures in a digital environment.

In the primary sectors, we provide engineering solutions for new design, modifications, repairs and reverse engineering for major airlines, special mission platform operators, military fleets, and VIP customers.

We offer a turn-key solution for product delivery by providing design, analysis and manufacturing to enable delivery of mechanical components and assemblies, all aspects of tooling, and 3D printed polymer parts.

Our team is agile and strives to operate and integrate with the customer design environment to create seamless and efficient design and product delivery processes.

Our Design Engineers (CAD specialists) are extremely proficient and fully trained in various digital tool-sets for 3D modelling. The design team is also highly familiar with the nuances associated with Designing for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM).

We have a team of Stress Engineers capable of assessing the strength of 3D printed parts or defining structural tests to characterize mechanical properties and strength values or overall component strength.

The engineering design team have a great deal of experience in certifying structure to meet airworthiness regulations and can help customers in demonstrating compliance.

In manufacturing, our focus is additive layer manufacturing of polymer parts, prototypes, trial-fit mock-ups, and lightweight tooling.

Our production facility houses an array of FDM printers and ancillary equipment including a Stratasys Fortus 450mc for printing ultra-polymer materials.

We utilise a hand-held laser scanner for product geometry validation and for reverse engineering or surveys.
